Advent Wreath Lighting Ceremony WEEK 1:
One:
Welcome to the season of Advent, a time when we look forward to the arrival of Christ. The energy and anticipation for Christmas builds. We prepare our homes and gifts and plans, but we also prepare our hearts to receive the king who saves us. He arrives first as a baby at Christmas, and comes back once again to show his face in glory. During Advent we eagerly await both Jesus’ birth and his second coming. So, now, we begin this season and our worship gathering in the name of the Father (Creator), Son (Savior), and Holy Spirit (Sustainer); and we light the first candle of the season.
(Light the first candle)
One: Jesus is the light of the world
All: Illuminate our hearts with your grace
One: We wait with anticipation for the heavens to open and to see your glory
All: Let your saving face shine on us
One: We are full of hope and excitement for the new life to come
All: Keep us awake and wide-eyed for your arrival
One: Let’s sing together…
